18 effective practices to make use of your free time
Free time is a gift! Yes, people are lucky to have free time, which is why making a plan for how to use that time can greatly improve your personal growth and general health. People can make a balanced routine that helps them keep getting better by dividing their tasks into daily, weekly, and monthly groups. Here are some ideas to help you start new habits and activities:
Daily Habits:
1. Morning meditation
(10–15 minutes): Start your day on a good note and set a good mood for the hours to come.
2. Keep a gratitude journal
Before going to bed, write down three things you’re thankful for to keep a happy attitude.
3. Reading is perfect for free time
For 30 minutes a day, I advice you to get lost in a book to unwind and let your mind run wild.
4. Physical activity
Whether it’s walking, yoga, or a workout, making moving a daily habit is important. Or, you can walk to the grocery store once per day.
5. Learn something new
Set aside 15 to 30 minutes to learn a new word, fact, or skill. You could use an app or an online lesson to help you. Google is a good friend here!
6. “Digital detox”
If you want to sleep better and feel better mentally, turn off your computers for an hour before bed. Speaking of bed, try the 4-3-2-1 Sleep Magic.
Weekly Practices:
1. Explore Nature
Get back to nature and clear your mind by spending time outside, like on a walk on the weekend or a trip to a nearby park.
2. Prep meals
Set aside a few hours a week to make sure you eat healthy foods and keep your body healthy.
3. Cultural Exploration
To learn more about other cultures, watch a foreign movie, go to a museum (in person or online), or cook a dish from a different culture.
4. Volunteer
Give a few hours to a cause you care about, whether it’s online volunteering or community work in your area. You can also join our initiative of “the charity weekly tips” on our Instagram account.
5. Spend time with people you care about.
Plan a weekly dinner or video call with family or friends to improve your relationships.
6. Personal Project Time
Do something for yourself, like drawing, coding, gardening, writing, or anything else.
Monthly Practices:
1. Set goals for your money
Look over your budget, savings, and investment plans and make any necessary changes to stay on track with your money.
2. Go to a workshop or seminar
Take a class that interests you, like cooking, photography, or personal finance, to keep learning new things.
3. Attend Events
Go to a networking event or a meetup group in the subject you’re interested in to make new friends and share your thoughts.
4. Health Check
Take care of your body and mind by giving yourself a day of self-care, like a spa day, a mental health day, or a health check.
5. Plan a mini-adventure
Take a day trip or a short vacation to get away from it all and recharge. A trip to a nearby town, a wildlife reserve, or a cultural site could be on the list.
6. Think and Plan
Take some time to think about what you’ve accomplished this month and make plans for the next month, focused on personal growth and areas you want to get better at.
You can make sure that your free time is spent in ways that improve your life, help you grow as a person, and make you feel better by adding these things to your routine. It’s about making the most of the time you have and finding the right mix for you.
